Hidden fabulous foodspot - a life inspiration story

A trip to Lille feels always a bit like being on holiday. Le Vieux Lille, as it's called, is the best part: tiny busy romantic streets full of 'to discover local specialties shops'.
A L'Huitriere is one of the best.
I fell in love with their fantastic Art Déco ceramic interior of the fish shop department. Most known for its oysters off course but we found some other, most wanted delicatessen in the window.
A bowl of black truffles ready to take-away in a paper bag.
Or what do you think about these pile of real 'Poulets de Bresse'.
The Poulet de Bresse is a most exceptional bird and the favored  of many top chefs, including Heston Blumenthal.
Try it when you have the chance.

In this lovely store you can always enjoy a gourmet nibble and 'a coupe' at the magnificent oyster bar.
In the back of the store, you have a legendary restaurant with the same name and probably the most famous in Lille that holds one Michelin star.

Merveilleux Fred-a life inspiration story

Every time we visit the ancient part of Lile in France, we pass by a small but luxury bakery, where's always a huge crowd in front, waiting to get in. We never did, not knowing what to cue for.
Untill today.
We discovered 'Aux Merveilleux de Fred'.
And now you will too.
Because, once you tasted the 'magnifique' small or large meringues, you WIIL cue. They're just too delicious....

People are looking for authenticity, food with local traditions and a great story. Well, Fred has it all. No wonder people pass this address.
See you in Lille!

What are the Merveilleux de Fred about?
Well, the Merveilleux is a confectionary whose lightness is only equalled by that of the Précieux and the Extravagants under the Directory regime at the end of the 18th century. Meringues coated in whipped cream, they are a traditional recipe of the north of France and Flanders. Often decried, sometimes forgotten, overlooked from time to time, Frédéric Vaucamps succeeded in bringing back their former glory by enhancing the recipe from 1985.

The Merveilleux are available in mini, individual or shared cake sizes. The cakes can also be customised for special occasions (birthdays, ceremonies, weddings, professional events...).
Don’t hesitate to specify when ordering (either by telephone or in shop).

Nr°13 Image of the day

Friday in Lille: walking in the rain after our Louvre-Lens visit.
One of our favorite fashion hotspots Serie Noire, had this fun eye-catcher on the corridor ceiling when you enter the shop.
Real punk history, sticked on the walls by stylist and party queen Fanny, so told me Olivier, owner of this rock n' roll store.
The labels? Are they punk? Well, let' say: Chloé, Balmain, Céline, Dior Homme, Ann De Meulemeester, Kris Van Assche, Barbara Bui, Acne, Haider Ackermann,Isaac Sellam Experience, Rick Owens, ...
Punk attitude, Yeah!
