Ah! The lovely (because a little bit mad)Yayoi Kusama exhibits brain manipulating infinity rooms and twenty-seven new large-scale dotted paintings at her monumental 2013 solo exhibition at the David Zwirner Gallery in NY. Once you saw or even better heard her in one of her video's, you'll never forget her. Her high but almost whispering monotone voice, sounds like she's in another dimension, as she probably is. Her work is, without any exception live even more hypnotizing than on picture.

Video with the artist, produced on the occasion of the 2011-2012 traveling retrospective organized by Tate Modern, London.

Hurry up: exhibition doesn't last long! November 8th – December 21st, 2013. Enjoy!

Visiting NY the next few days?
Do go and look for the 31 street art pieces and statements ab fab artist Banksy leaves during the entire month for his "Better out than in"exposition. It would be a crime not to.
October 11 th, Banksy let a truck, stuffed with 'stuffed' cuddly animal toys, drive trough the streets of NY as a complaint against animal cruelty in slaughter houses.

Banksy The Sirens of the Lambs. A slaughterhouse delivery truck touring the meatpacking district and then citywide for the next two weeks.

This stricking and very fun statement is calles "The Sirens of the Lambs" and is to be seen near the Meatpacking District.(Off course!!) Banksy's slaughterhouse delivery truck tours first the meatpacking district and then citywide for the next two weeks.

And please, keep in looking! Banksy, who's works is normally not for sale or only at sky high gallery pricing, is stunting the entire month. Imagine this: The day before yesterday he set up an art stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $60 each.
An old man set up the stall, and the first sale was done only at 3PM in the afternoon!! The stall closed at 6 PM, more than half of the work was wrapped and went back to the artist. How much the few 'lucky bastards who walked by and saw the hand of the master' spent? 420 USD. Arghhhh!!!!
Please note: This was a one off. The stall was gone the next day :-)
Check out the hilarious movie.
Banksy Better out than in New York October 2013

This month, every day, Banksy leaves another trace in his city: a food truck transformed in a tropical 3 dimensional garden, small but o so delicate wall paintings on a concrete wall, or just a sprayed tag with a statement text...Small or big, his work is  always strong and delicate, or shall we say poetic at the same time.

Near each work, there's always a code, a number. Why? Just to enhance the viewer's enjoyment of the exhibits an audio guide is provided via cell phone. Simply call the number next to the painting and select the appropriate option on the keypad. (Banksy is a street guy, so it's a toll free service. Nice.

From Station to Station_a life inspiration story

Over the course of three weeks in September 2013, a train traveled from New York City to San Francisco, making nine stops at train stations across the country. So to hear, nothing spectacular, but what if this train contained work of leading figures and underground creators from the worlds of art, music, food, literature, and film for a series of cultural interventions and site-specific happenings?
The train, designed as a moving, kinetic light sculpture, broadcasted unique content and experiences to a global audience. The name of this project? Station to station. The initiator? Artist Doug Aitken and made possible by Levi's.

From September 6 to 28, artists and musicians traveled across the US on the nine-car train, performing and sharing footage of their journey online. At 10 locations - New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Minneapolis & St Paul, Kansas City, Santa Fe, Winslow, Barstow, LA and Oakland - the train stopped for a night of music, dance, short films and art installations open to the public for $25 a ticket.

The launch event at New York and the closing event in Oakland ended with a multi-coloured smoke installation by Swiss artist Olaf Breuning.

Station to station was an ambitious project and was supported by an impressive digital campaign: the Station to Station site combines official footage with tweets and comments submitted by the public and was updated throughout the three-week journey, while Make our Mark encourages creative expression via social media in response to questions such as ‘Who are you?’, ‘What moves you?’ and ‘What’s your dream?’

Great initiative, great footage!
Check it out.

And, guys from Levi's, this could also work fantastic for a tour in Europe, in 10 well selected cities!
Be welcome!

New York impressions-a life inspiration day

Today we all followed what happened in New York, as Sandy hit the coastline this morning.

Weird how these kind of disasters keep me fascinated and drawn to the screens. Forces of nature in an enormous clash with human build stuff.

This is a selection of pictures that caught my eye today.
The horror and beauty of nature in all it's destroying power.

What we already know about Models Kitchen-a life inspiration day

Cesar Casier, for the ones who know him, is adorable. Always was.

I know him from the time his mum Carine brought him once in a while to her shop Oona when he was a child, and we saw Cesar growing up.

Nobody was surprised when he took on a succesful modeling career and moved to New York.

His blog about his life and friends is really fun to read and is like his personality: fresh, open en no nonsense. http://thecesarsalad.blogspot.be/2012/06/cesars-modelkitchen.html

It's on this blog I first read about him writing a cook book.

Another cook book, you might ask. Yep!

And what is the book about? First, it's called 'Model Kitchen'. Other names like 'Cesar's salad' or ' Models do eat' did not pass. Enjoy about 75 recipes in Casier's Model Kitchen, with contributions from his top model friends with off course very yummie food and fashion pics.

“I have this great passion for food and fashion. I left home for modeling and I didn’t want to go to all these fast-food restaurants, so I started to learn to cook,” Casier explains in an interview with Style.com

“So, I decided to make a cookbook about what models eat. I have a bucket list of things I want to do in my life, like make a club hit, go to Sydney, go bungee jumping, and also make a cookbook. This one, I can stripe off.”

Think healthy, easy and affordable recipes along with Casier’s favorite local hot spots in the big fashion cities like our beloved Café Gitane or Peels in New York.

A foreword by Derek Blasberg, styling by Tom Van Dorpe, and contributions from Lily Donaldson, Milla Jovovich, Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson, and Bette Franke. From Jovovich’s baked salmon with asparagus, a Julia Restoin-Roitfeld chicken dish to Ceesie's own juice cleanses and skinny dips. We can't wait!
For the ones who want to run to the store, hold your horses!

Model Kitchen goes on sale in Belgium early next month and  in select stores in the U.S. shortly after.

A recipe preview? Here we go!

The Cesar Salad
For the salad:
-2 chicken filets
-1/2 head of iceberg lettuce
-2 eggs
-1 slice of whole-grain bread, toasted
-1 pear
-1 radish
-salt and pepper
For the Caesar dressing:
-2 egg yolks
-5 anchovy filets, packed in oil
-1 clove of garlic
-olive oil
-1 teaspoon mustard
-lemon juice
-salt and pepper
Wash and shred the lettuce. In the meantime, bring some water to a boil in a small saucepan. Season the chicken with salt and pepper and place it on a baking sheet in the oven. When the water boils, cook the eggs until they are hard-boiled (8 to 10 minutes). Peel the pear and cut into slices. Also lay the pear slices on the baking sheet and broil, but for no more than 20 seconds. Arrange the lettuce in the center of the plate. Peel and quarter the hard-boiled egg and place on top. When the chicken is ready, cut it into pieces and cut the toast into small squares. Add to the salad. Finally, top the salad with the grilled pear slices and thinly sliced radish. Serve with Caesar dressing on the side.

For the dressing, Mince the anchovies and grate the clove of garlic. Place the egg yolks in a bowl and add the anchovies, garlic, and mustard. Mix thoroughly and gently fold in a bit of fruity olive oil and a little lemon juice until you have a smooth dressing. Season to taste with pepper and just a bit of salt. The dressing won’t need much salt because the anchovies are salty enough.

Oh, smokey eyes Carine! An inspiration-story day.

I must admit it, I've always liked Carine.

Oui, La Roitfeld as she probably was called in Paris when she worked there as Vogue's fashion editor.

But I spotted her long before that. As a young stylist for Elle, and later in partnership with the young Mario Testino. A match made in heaven and when a third star in the making, Mister Tom Ford himself, joined the hip entourage they could go wild. So they did.

Ford and Roitfeld invented the wave in fashion photography called 'Porn chic' (Carine likes the label 'Erotica Chic' better) and Ford's collections for Gucci were the perfect playground for their experiments. Remember model Carmen Kass pulling down her knickers and showing off body hair shaved into the letter 'G'. Carine's idea.

Wanna know more? Check Carine Roitfeld's book, Irreverent!
Published by Rizzoli. This fabulous 368-page tome looks back at the fashion stylist/editor/muse and her 30-year career.

I pre-ordered it more than a year ago if you want to know :-)

But I wanted to sign you in on La Roitfeld's make up collection for my ab fab brand for years MAC

A collaboration that was meant to be, as Carine has more or less always the same style. Her clothes (designer black, black, black and some white), her out-of-bed-je-ne-sais-quoi hairdo and without a doubt her makeup.

So, what else could and would she bring but a version of her own, strong recognisable signature look, sticking to the strict dress code of 'black tie and dark, 'nightlived' smokey eyes?

Launched with a fun 'making off video' and a party in NY off course, we only could wait for the real stuff.

Last week released in (too) limited edition at Mac stores, a small but very to the point collection. I see it as thé perfect toolbox for a look à la Carine.

Nude nail polish, check. Pallet of mat or shiny black, browns and creme eyeshadows, check. Nude lipstick to blend away your mouth, check.

A must have eye lash curler, an eye brow pencil, mascara...

All in a beautiful mat packaging with Carine's famous 'CR' signature.

My selection?
