Les hommes de Ann Demeulemeester-a life inspiration day

Paris, the show of Ann Demeulemeester Hommes A/W 2013. We got an invite, so we headed of to Paris at 7 o'clock in the morning.
We arrive at the Quai Malaquais 10.20 am sharp, and this time no bloggers circus (yet), and everyone arrives civilized and fashionably in time.
Fashion icon Diane Pernet is half an hour early, Scott Sartorialist Schuman arrives just before La Menkes, and Ann herself is quite at ease and has some time to chat before the show starts. We are ready.

Ann Demeulemeester chatting before the start of her show.
The advantage to come early: you see the designers in a blanc space, the vibe of respectful expectation. Nice.

My man, Ivan.

Yours truly.

Yours truly, Kate Stockman, blogger The Squid Stories (haha!!)

Mister Scott Schuman, Sartorialst.
Our Belgian hat designer Elvis Pompilio looked great in an off white Russioan inspired  Kozakken outfit. Always fun, always stylish. So was friend JP Mas, also in a forest inspired shirt.
My man, again.
Strike the pose with Christophe Urbain, from the fashion stores Rewind (Men/Woman). Great to pop in to some friends unexpected.
Ready for the show. Menkes has arrived, and Anna doesn't do men.

Preparing the scene, get rid of the plastic.

The Ann Demeulemeester show evoked somehow a Victorian mood. But there was more. Her silhouettes, (very) young man with loose long hair, dark brows and eyes, red lips looked like Thomas Hardy priests mixed with Quacker darkness.
Demeulemeester's send monastic figures in dramatic full-length mohair sweaters on the runway and these were one of the most eccentric silhouettes, beautiful and new. As the designer stayed true to her black universe while blending in voluminous jackets, floor-length parachute military parka's and sleeveless topcoats. Every piece was oversized or extra long, using even longer sleeves, pleats and feminine-inspired volumes, or delicate embroidered tapestry.
Nick Cave as the obligate soundtrack for an introvert, dramatic show, too short as ever.
No color, off course, but all the possible shades in black and very very pure white.

The 'finale', after a 15 minute show.

Ann's ultra short hello.
The usual '10 seconds after the show rush out'. 5 seconds later the room is empty. Off we go!

The four horsemen documentary-An inspiration story day 113.1

The four horsemen documentary: ‘The world will never return to ‘business as usual’’

Four Horsemen is the debut feature from director Ross Ashcroft which reveals the fundamental flaws in the economic system which have brought our civilization to the brink of disaster.
23 leading thinkers –frustrated at the failure of their respective disciplines – break their silence to explain how the world really works.
The film pulls no punches in describing the consequences of continued inaction – but its message is one of hope. If more people can equip themselves with a better understanding of how the world really works, then the systems and structures that condemn billions to poverty or chronic insecurity can at last be overturned. Solutions to the multiple crises facing humanity have never been more urgent, but equally, the conditions for change have never been more favourable.

It is not the first time an indictment to the neo capitalist system of the last 20 years is set, but it's certain that we are entering the era of the consequences now.

Rather than condemning bankers, politicians or the media, Four Horsemen feature documentary puts the entire system up for discussion.

In almost two hours the world’s leading economic thinkers give their views on the current capitalism. How can it be that one half of the world suffer from obesity and the other half dies of hunger? That’s the big question. By analogy with the Bible calls the creator himself: Who are the four horsemen who are at the basis of the Apocalypse?

A voice-over connects the different thinkers together and leads the viewer through themes such as wealth, inequality, consumerism and progress.

The documentary ends with surprisingly simple solutions for the deplorable state of our world. For, as ecologist Satish Kumar says: “What has been created by humans, can be changed by people.”
That’s why it fits in the current discours.
Strong documentary! Try to watch it, trailer underneath for first impression or more at http://www.fourhorsemenfilm.com/

eco shower-A life story-day 111.4

In our garden, about 15 minutes drive from our home, we live the basic good life.
As we have no power, no water, and no wifi, we have to bring all we need with us.
So water is transported in large bidons, and on hot summer days, we sometimes miss fresh, running water, let's say a shower or something....
Well, last weekend we installed this great invention in one of our trees: the solar powered shower.
No need to say, at 30°celcius, it was our best buy this season!

Sun for Flamingo-An inspiration story-day 111.2

Not a review about the latest bar concept of Brussels bar guru Frédéric Nicolay that's been open since June 2012, but a small post about the amazing idea of putting reflecting mirrors on top of a neighbors roof, to reflect sun rays to their terrace.
I just love it, and when I last landed there for a quick lunch, I could see it actually works!
Natural light is been caught by twenty something mirrored dishes, turned towards the sun. Subtile but once you noticed you keep on looking.

Bar Flamingo is situated in the Alhambrawijk, on the corner the Lakenstraat opposite the KVS.
Try to visit on a sunny day, seek some (reflected) sun and admire at the same time this genius innovative mirror composition, that even looks like a work of art on the omnipresent satellite dishes.

My brand new company logo - A life story-day 110.2

Kate Stockman and her brand new company structure SQUID, is proud to present it's company signature logo.

It took us a while to arrive at this result, but let's say, it's pretty amazing, no?

Studio Beard http://www.studiobeard.be/, founded by the talented Dimi Decooman, created this complex tiger image that reflects me, the stuff & digs that surround me,  the glorious of cities, the beauty of nature, the style of a world that fascinates me and above all, an image for my company that's about the future and the way people and brands should co-exist together.
For a good life, a feel of well being, a planet to keep and a very positive attitude towards the world tout court.

Here it is:

Doing the big work: An inspiration story-day day 107.1

A great quote or shall I say mission by Seth Godin, always good for a morning reflection. This guy seems to be feel when I need a kind of wake up call.

This was it this morning:

Doing the big work (at the little table)

Most of the day is spent in little work. Clerical, bureaucratic, meetings, polishing, improving, reacting, responding.
The obligation is to carve out time for the big work.
The big work that scares you, that brings risk, that might very well fail.
And we're most likely to do that work when it's least expected, when the table is small, the resources are lacking and time is short.
No need to wait for permission or the lightning bolt of inspiration.
The big work is available to you as soon as you decide to do it.

Poetic street art Paris: An inspiration story-day day 106.3

Paris s'éveille, et on découvre des installations éphémère de l'artiste Mademoiselle Maurice.
Poetic street art made out of colored origamis sticked to gray walls. Call it 'temporary art pieces', as they suffer from wind and rain, and don't last. But that makes them even more beautiful and delicate.

Try to spot them, next time you visit Paris.

Maison Martin Margiela_'replica' fragrances: An inspiration story-day day 105.4

Maison Martin Margiela_'replica' fragrances

Invitation to discover the three new fragrances of the house 'Maison Martin Margiela'.
Sunkissed salted skin, fragrance beach walk 1972, will be my favorite, I guess, but also the Fun Fair Evening in  Santa Monica stimulates already my scent imagination.

All the news Tuesday, after the live event in Brussels.

Lego imagination: An inspiration story-day day 105.2

Lego imagination.

Look at this fantastic set of ads by designer Jung von Matt for a Lego campaign named ‘Imagine’ which use extreme minimalism to represent well-know cartoon and kids characters.

My favorite?
Check out the genius simplicity of Obelix, Idefix and Asterix.
Try to spot the others....Enjoy!
