B.L.C.K is there to stay_a life inspiration story

Some people are natural born retailers. They feel the 'zeit-geist' in lifestyle stuff (fashion, design, accessoiries) and most of all, they just A.C.T.!
Christophe Urbain is one of those real 'entrepreneurs' who just think and act at the same time.
Result (this month): a brand new store 'breeded' in the cellar of his (third) store Rewind Men, opened last week for the press and 'the Ghent-scene'.
B.L.C.K.
Fashion freaks know: black is always good but is back as never before.
Black makes it possible to focus on pure shape instead of color and that is fascinating and liberating at the same time.

What to expect? Only black stuff: fashion, objects, furniture, scents.
Labels? DRKSHDW en Lilies collecties of Rick OwensAvelon, The Last Conspiracy, A.Friend by A.F. Vandevorst, V Ave Shoe Repair, Konceptkramer, Private 0204, Byredo, Nmbr 9, Nico Uytterhaegen and Werkstatt München.
Beware: not everything is delivered yet, but hey, we're very happy to pop by once in a while to check out new arrivals!
Love the shop, love the energy of new retail stories in Ghent and love the people who keep on surprising us.
Chrisophe*, G.O.O.D.  L.U.C.K.!!

*You could remember Christophe from previous retail concepts. I wrote about another store HumØr he started some time ago. Check out blogpost http://thesquidstories.blogspot.be/2012/11/humr-op-zn-gents-life-inspiration-day.html

The four horsemen documentary-An inspiration story day 113.1

The four horsemen documentary: ‘The world will never return to ‘business as usual’’

Four Horsemen is the debut feature from director Ross Ashcroft which reveals the fundamental flaws in the economic system which have brought our civilization to the brink of disaster.
23 leading thinkers –frustrated at the failure of their respective disciplines – break their silence to explain how the world really works.
The film pulls no punches in describing the consequences of continued inaction – but its message is one of hope. If more people can equip themselves with a better understanding of how the world really works, then the systems and structures that condemn billions to poverty or chronic insecurity can at last be overturned. Solutions to the multiple crises facing humanity have never been more urgent, but equally, the conditions for change have never been more favourable.

It is not the first time an indictment to the neo capitalist system of the last 20 years is set, but it's certain that we are entering the era of the consequences now.

Rather than condemning bankers, politicians or the media, Four Horsemen feature documentary puts the entire system up for discussion.

In almost two hours the world’s leading economic thinkers give their views on the current capitalism. How can it be that one half of the world suffer from obesity and the other half dies of hunger? That’s the big question. By analogy with the Bible calls the creator himself: Who are the four horsemen who are at the basis of the Apocalypse?

A voice-over connects the different thinkers together and leads the viewer through themes such as wealth, inequality, consumerism and progress.

The documentary ends with surprisingly simple solutions for the deplorable state of our world. For, as ecologist Satish Kumar says: “What has been created by humans, can be changed by people.”
That’s why it fits in the current discours.
Strong documentary! Try to watch it, trailer underneath for first impression or more at http://www.fourhorsemenfilm.com/

eco shower-A life story-day 111.4

In our garden, about 15 minutes drive from our home, we live the basic good life.
As we have no power, no water, and no wifi, we have to bring all we need with us.
So water is transported in large bidons, and on hot summer days, we sometimes miss fresh, running water, let's say a shower or something....
Well, last weekend we installed this great invention in one of our trees: the solar powered shower.
No need to say, at 30°celcius, it was our best buy this season!

Sun for Flamingo-An inspiration story-day 111.2

Not a review about the latest bar concept of Brussels bar guru Frédéric Nicolay that's been open since June 2012, but a small post about the amazing idea of putting reflecting mirrors on top of a neighbors roof, to reflect sun rays to their terrace.
I just love it, and when I last landed there for a quick lunch, I could see it actually works!
Natural light is been caught by twenty something mirrored dishes, turned towards the sun. Subtile but once you noticed you keep on looking.

Bar Flamingo is situated in the Alhambrawijk, on the corner the Lakenstraat opposite the KVS.
Try to visit on a sunny day, seek some (reflected) sun and admire at the same time this genius innovative mirror composition, that even looks like a work of art on the omnipresent satellite dishes.
